BOMBANANA beginner guide

Get your trio ready for BOMBANANA. Learn the three monkey roles, set up clear signals, and work through your first bomb together.

THE SHORT VERSION

You need three players, and each has a different job. One monkey operates the bomb, one reads the manual, and one connects the two through observation and speech. Your first goal is a clear exchange, not a fast one.

Give the team a minute to prepare.

Start from the full game on Steam. Use the server-browser and room-code guide to bring a trio together, then decide who will take each role. The developer’s FAQ says that two roles need a microphone; the Mute Monkey does not speak.

  • Agree on signals for yes, no, wait, and repeat.
  • Choose one viewpoint for positions. “Left” should refer to the same side for everyone.
  • Keep role restrictions intact when learning. They are the point of the puzzle.
About the demo: older videos and articles may show different early levels. They do not establish that a free demo is currently available. Check our Demo availability reference and Steam for current access options.

Meet your three-person team.

The Blind Monkey

You operate the bomb. Use touch and your teammates’ instructions to find the right control. Repeat the position before you press, flip, or cut.

The Mute Monkey

You have the manual. Find the matching instructions and communicate the answer through gestures. Agree on clear signals before the countdown starts.

The Deaf Monkey

You can see the bomb and speak. Watch the Mute Monkey and relay instructions to the Blind Monkey. Keep every number attached to a position.

The Blind Monkey can contribute information through touch, including Braille readings. Keep those observations separate from what the Deaf Monkey can see. The person reading the manual needs the actual value, not a guess about what a pattern might mean.

Make instructions easy to follow.

Use a small, repeatable vocabulary. A module name tells the Mute Monkey which page to find; a numbered position tells the Blind Monkey which control to use. Decide how to communicate zero and repeated numbers before they appear in a live puzzle.

Name the module → describe the inputs → consult the manual → relay one action → confirm the result.

This is a suggested communication routine, not a secret game mechanic. When an input is unclear, repeat it. When the group no longer agrees on which position it belongs to, read the relevant panel again.

Your first defusal, one step at a time.

  1. Find the panel.

Identify the module and its position before describing colors or numbers.

  2. Gather its inputs.

Read the information the manual asks for, including any light or tactile value.

  3. Look up the current state.

The Mute Monkey checks the matching instructions. A previous bomb’s answer is not a substitute.

  4. Relay and confirm.

Give the operator one position and one action. Then check what changed on the panel.

Use the manual overview to prepare your next module, or check the campaign table to see what a level adds.

See a complete exchange: our first Wires example follows a recorded Demo callout from Blue light and four numbered wires to the reported Yellow-wire cut. It shows what each message needs to carry; it is not a universal rule for the full release.

A few things new teams ask.

Can we play with two people?

The official game description and developer FAQ require exactly three players. Do not assume that an unofficial workaround is a built-in game mode.

Which role should a beginner choose?

There is no single best choice. Pick a role that fits the player’s comfort with observing, reading, or operating controls, and rotate between rounds to understand the others.

Do we need to memorize the manual?

No. Begin by recognizing module names and knowing which input fields to collect. The live manual supplies the rule for the current state.

What should we do after a wrong input?

Pause the conversation and check the panel again. It may be unchanged or may now need a different action. Do not assume a reset behavior that you have not observed.

Based on the official game description, developer FAQ, and community research. Communication routines are editorial suggestions. Read our source notes.
